LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – “Extreme Couponing”, the reality show about people’s obsession with free coupons online, made news last December during a hint premiere. “Extreme Couponing” was tested by TLC to viewers during an initial one-hour special last fall; that series premiere broke many domestic cable records attracting an unheard of 2.1 million viewers for its fall airing.
Tonight, TLC has … clipped …. together more of the coupon clipping phenomenon to present the highly anticipate season premiere of “Extreme Couponing” with back-to back episodes airing tonight. Expect this premiere to break ratings records.
In a statement to LALATE this week, TLC remarks “You may have heard some of the viral buzz around an initial one-hour special we premiered back in December that drew in 2.1 million viewers. This is a subculture with a mass following.” In fact, some of the images released to news in advance of tonight’s premiere are shocking just themselves. There are people devoting entire rooms of their homes to coupons, people building unique glass structures to create a virtual library of active coupons, and pandemonium kicks in when people save hundreds of dollars at the register.
Tonight’s premiere “glances into the lives of the savviest shoppers as they plan and plot their way to unbelievable savings (up to 99%)” says TLC to LALATE. Some of these people literally maintain an “stockpile, or sometimes an entire stock room, full of items that will keep their families fed for years to come.”
Tonight, viewers meet J’aime & Tiffany. J’aime goes shopping for $2,000 worth of groceries and walks out only paying $100. Tiffany, in contrast, goes into utter shock when (drumroll) her local store changes their coupon policy.
Then we meet St Louis’ Rebecca who proves what she can do locally for a larger party while “Idaho super-mom Jessica will attempt to pull off 18 separate transactions to get over $600 worth of groceries.” Unbelievable!
