Brilliant performances in Atonement with Keira Knightley, The Last King Of Scotland and Wanted, alongside Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman, have cemented his career.
Now James is the lead as the young Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class, the action-packed superhero movie that has been wowing critics and audiences and opened in the UK yesterday.
The 32-year-old actor has taken over from Patrick Stewart as the telepathic boffin mutant trying to defend humans.


Originally from Drumchapel in Glasgow, James was aged only seven when his mother Elizabeth Johnstone and father James Snr split up.
His mum lived across the the street from her parents who agreed to look after James despite having five kids of their own.
