Medicaid Costs - Mandated Expenses Make Up Large Part Of Human Services Budget

This is the first in a series of stories looking at departmental budgets leading up to the release of the Chautauqua County budget Wednesday.

MAYVILLE - Republican lawmakers in the Senate introduced a bill last week to freeze and begin cutting away the cost of Medicaid from county governments.

County Executive Greg Edwards and other county officials regularly point to Medicaid and other state-imposed costs as being the factors that drive up the local tax burden.
